One thing on screen
The Now screen shows a single task and its next step. Everything else waits on another tab, so the list can’t pile up in front of you.
For people who know what to do and still can’t start
Bright Shiny Object puts one task on the screen, shrinks it to a first step you can do right now, and gives you a short timer to begin. Routines keep a streak that forgives a missed day.
Free for 2 weeks. No credit card. Then $4.99 a month, $29.99 a year, or $50 once for life.
The Now screen shows a single task and its next step. Everything else waits on another tab, so the list can’t pile up in front of you.
Every task opens with a first step. If it still feels like too much, tap once for a smaller one. Big tasks split into parts that fill up as you go.
Work 5 minutes with permission to stop, or 25 when you’re rolling. If something distracts you mid-timer, set it aside on your list and keep going.
Morning, bedtime and your own. Run them one step at a time. Streaks count your days in a row, and one missed day doesn’t wipe them out.
Thirteen everyday struggles, like low energy or trouble focusing, each with options rated by how strong the research is and a link to the study.
Each finish earns a trinket for your magpie’s drawer. There are 50 badges to collect, and a daily tip read aloud during your morning routine.
Tees, stickers and pins with the magpie on them. The shop is how we keep the app ad-free.

This policy explains what the Bright Shiny Object app and website collect, why, and what you can do about it. Bright Shiny Object is made by von Striver Technologies, a business based in California (“we,” “us”). If anything here is unclear, email brightshinyobjectapp@gmail.com.
Apple and Google handle all payments. We never see your card number. We receive whether your subscription is active, your plan, and renewal dates, through our subscription service provider.
We don’t use your data for advertising, and we don’t build profiles to sell to anyone.
We share data only with companies that help us run the service, under contracts that limit them to doing that work for us:
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of a sale or merger of the business, in which case this policy would continue to apply to your data.
Some things you tell the app, like quiz answers about attention, energy, sleep or mood, may count as health information under laws such as Washington’s My Health My Data Act. We collect it only to provide the app, with your consent when you take the quiz. We never sell it, never use it for ads, and you can delete it at any time. Bright Shiny Object is not a medical service and does not diagnose or treat any condition.
We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your data within 30 days. Copies in backups are erased within a further 30 days. If you stop using the app without deleting your account, we delete inactive accounts after 2 years of no sign-ins, after emailing you first.
Depending on where you live, including California, the EU and the UK, you may have legal rights to access, correct, delete or move your data, and to object to or limit some uses. Email us to use any of these rights. We’ll answer within 30 days and won’t treat you differently for asking. If you’re in the EU or UK, we rely on our contract with you to run the app, your consent for quiz answers, and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and working. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access inside our business is limited to what’s needed to run and support the service. No system is perfectly secure, and we’ll tell you promptly if a breach affects your data.
The app is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you think a child under 13 has given us data, email us and we’ll delete it.
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
